Musical Theater Jazz dance is a high-energy, rhythmic style of dance seen on Broadway and other stages. Focus is on flexibility, control, and performance and the class will learn specific variations from classic Broadway shows. Tap dance focus is on timing, rhythm, and coordination.
A fun, high-energy class in which dancers will learn basics of different styles under the umbrella of 'hip-hop' including house, jazz funk, popping, locking, and breaking with respect to the culture and history of the style.
This class will explore elements of contemporary and modern dance including control, balance, breath, contraction/release, fall and recovery, and floor work. Techniques explored include Horton, Graham, Duncan, and others.
If your child has a hard time deciding between dance and gymnastics, this is a great option! Our Acrobatic Arts certified teacher will structure the class to include work on tumbling and acrobatic skills in a logical progression that will prepare them for acro dance, cheerleading, etc. Acrobatics is thought to be a subset of gymnastics; instead of a sprung floor, bars, beam, or vault, acro teaches dancers how to use their own bodies safely on a hard floor and utilizes more graceful, softer lines with a more fluid prep and landing in their tumbling. Dancers are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to be enrolled in a separate dance technique class (ballet and/or jazz). Bluegrass teachers use the Acrobatic Arts curriculum and progressions.
